PREMIUM – Acrylic Polyurethane Color



The painting of the helmet is carried out in two parts, the first being the graphic design, where we apply the fluorescent and metallic colors – the consistency of these allows us to work with a tip size of 0.3mm on the general patterns and hues, Drying time is fairly quick if the paint is applied in fine coats, and once dry it responds really well to contact with adhesive materials such as masking tapes, etc. without the need for the use of intermediate varnishes.

For the second part, the artistic image of the skull, we use the basic colors which allow working with much more detail, they respond perfectly to high dilutions without losing color strength; the color black for example allows working with one drop of color to 15/20 of Reducer for painting in black and white, obtaining thus various shades of grey and varying the compressor pressure from 30-60 psi (2-4 bar) depending on the detail desired.



1. We prepare the helmet for airbrushing with White Primer 62.061 and then begin to spray the color Green Fluo 62.039 in the areas which should be left outlined with this color in the final design.
2. Next we place the 3mm. masking tape following the outline.
3. We spray a dilution of Orange Fluo 62.033 and Golden Yellow Fluo 62.032 for the next outline.



4. And again use the tape to outline both the wing-shaped sides.
5. We cover the entire helmet except for the area we are working on.
6. We spray a coat of Violet Fluo 62.037, diluting it with Metallic Black 62.053.



7. We paint the splattered effect with Magenta Fluo 62.036, and bring out the shadows with Violet Fluo 62.037. For the highlights we apply freehand the color White 62.001.
8. On the inside of the design of the wings we apply Silver 62.048 and create a downgraded effect with Blue Fluo 62.038 on the tips.
9. We start with the front and back of the helmet, protecting properly the sides already painted.



10. First we apply Metallic Black 62.053.
11. On the front we paint an image of real fire. With White 62.001 we paint the flames.
12. Now the flames will be covered with Scarlet Fluo 62.034. Without the previously applied white, we will not achieve that the red flames show as vividly against the black background.



13. We repeat the process creating more flames with White 62.001.
14. Next we use Golden Yellow Fluo 62.032 to blend the white and the scarlet.
15. Next the time has come to begin the design on the back of the helmet: here we will use a blend of the basic colors (neither Metallics nor Fluorescents, which are fine for the graphic designs but not for the realism we require for the artistic painting). I have selected the image of a skull, which I have created to give a more aggressive look to the helmet and which goes well with the flames on the front. We begin by creating a blue nebulous haze which will give light to the back part.



16. With Sepia 62.018 we apply the base tone.
17. We create shadows and textures with a mix of Dark Ocre 62.016.
18. To the previous mixture we add a few drops of Black 62.020 and 12 drops of Reducer 62.066 for contrast.



19. We color the iris with Cobalt Blue 62.009 and we give a coat to the eye sockets with Blue Green 62.012. We also whiten the teeth.
20. This moment requires care as we bring the airbrush close to the surface to create the brilliance in the eyes, corners of the eyes, veins, etc.
21. With the skull finished, we give a red base to the cowl.



22. To the previous color we add a drop of Black 62.020 and 12 drops of Reducer 62.066 for shading.
23. We create texture in the areas of light and a general wash to the cowl with Violet 62.008 to finish.
24. Last but not less important, mi signature.



25, 26, 27. Time now to take away with care the masking tapes we applied at the beginning to protect the color of the outlining we painted at the beginning and see the final result.



28, 29, 30. The final protection for the work is applied with a clear urethane varnish, two coats (allowing between 5-10 minutes between applications for drying). Allow the helmet to dry for a day, and once thoroughly dry, we sand lightly to provide support for two further coats of varnish.
